Billie Eilish raids food stands at an empty mall in video for new single ‘Therefore I Am’

Billie Eilish is peak 2020 teen in the music video for her brand-new single “Therefore I Am.”

Released Thursday, the nearly-five-minute video follows Eilish around an empty mall as she raids food from Wetzel’s Pretzels, Hot Dog on a Stick and Chipotle. Galavanting up escalators and down elevators, the 18-year-old star sing-songs the biting chorus: “I’m not your friend or anything // Damn, you think that you’re the man // I think, therefore, I am”.

The song is “very, very up for interpretation,” Eilish told Zane Lowe on Apple Music.

“Therefore I Am” follows Eilish’s July single “My Future,” a softer song in which Eilish walks away from a relationship, deciding to put herself — and her future — first. Eilish has confirmed she is working on a new album.

It’s been a good week for the dark-pop singer. On Wednesday, her “Bad Guy” video hit a billion views on YouTube.

Eilish became a household name last year thanks to her album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. She became the youngest person ever to sweep the four main categories at the Grammys , winning for best new artist, record of the year, song of the year and album of the year (the last person to do that was Christopher Cross in 1981).

Her brother, Finneas O’Connell, produced and co-wrote much of Eilish’s debut album in their childhood home, where they both were homeschooled.

In March, Eilish kicked off her “Where Do We Go?” world tour but was forced to cancel shortly after due to the coronavirus pandemic. While her tour is sidelined, she’s stayed busy. She performed for several fundraiser specials such as iHeart Living Room Concert for America in March and One World: Together at Home in April. In August, she sang ‘My Future’ at the Democratic National Convention after ripping President Trump for ‘destroying’ the country. In October, she held a livestreamed concert.
